Many of you may know Jamie Hector as one of the leading roles on The Wire but he is far more than a role; I know him as a friend, mentor, and inspirational voice not only in my heart but the heart of the community. I broke down in tears [i know, im always crying :)] watching footage of him working with teens I have have the pleasure of knowing. The system never shines light on the beauty in it's junkyards, and I must say the teens that Jamie has crossed paths with shined long before anyone took them from the rubble,He never shaded their talent shunning all validation but allowed to to build from a star into a planet. I want to give a Thank you to Jamie for being there for me in many ways that he may ever know;most of all I would like to thank him for continuously coming back. When I say continuously,I don't mean autograph signings and screenings but for sitting down and speaking to the neighborhood as a person and not a distant figure. I am unable to express all the feelings I have inside of me through this post, but it gives me great pleasure to tell all the young people that are reading this that your light creates more color than the sun/you dont need wings to fly/you've got heart.
*Below is a link to their NY1 interview for more on the production from the actors and Jamie as well
