Andrea Gibson is by far one of my favorite poets. I first encountered who she was by taking a face book quiz i.e "Which slam poet are you?" Answer-Andrea Gibson. Since I had never heard or seen her perform before I YouTubed' her and stumbled upon some breathtaking and groundbreaking masterpieces that her voice was able to painted across my monitor as I watched her perform.
I never intended to post this video, and after reading YouTube response that sated
"This inspired me to break up with my abusive ex 5 months ago. Now I've found the courage to love myself first. Thank you, Andrea. You are truly one of my heroes." It is more than hard to escape an abusive relationship. Though I may not know the extent of this woman's battle, a poem being the catalyst to break away from that struggle is beyond what my vocabulary can describe.
