more and more i begin to realize how much support i have around me. more and more this inspires me by allowing me to be myself and grow comfortably with myself as well. one of the closets people to me gave the best advice as my branches begin to break and form new paths of extension.
*here's the e-mail below
i said;i want to find that same poet i was before when i lived my life as art and not a metaphoric competition.
she said;Yo its crazy that you're going through this thing that I think I went through when I was in college. AKA- you're wayyy ahead of your time. Which is actually perfectly on time.
What's that thing that dorie says to nemo? Just. Keep. Swimming.
You'll find your way. You're an artist, and you're going through your "process". Every step of which, is extremely important. But you can't skip any stages, cause then you wont ever truly grow.
When something feels dead to you, it's time to change it. Follow what makes you feel good, inspired, excited, happy. You could do anything you want. Maybe you need to start doing poetry while spinning fire. or maybe you've exceeded what poetry and words has to offer and next you want to dance or make music. Or maybe you just gotta do more listening than talking for a while so that when you come back to the game, you can have something truly new to offer. Poetry will always be there, but more importantly, YOU will always be a POET.
Energy and inspiration comes and goes, but always flows in different directions.... face whatever direction the wind is pushing you in!!
bet u didn't think i was gonna go in like that, did you SUCKA. Haha. I'm always here though, you know that.
Peace
i hope that this has inspired many of you as it has me <3

as the HIV/AIDS epidemic spreads so does the advertisements to stop the spread. o remember in the summer going to "the new museum" in Manhattan and there was a section with photographs from different places which all had a red ribbon hidden inside the images. what shocked me about the images was that they didn't shock me or want me to make a stand against the virus, it was sort of like a new found fashion statement. the below image makes me want to do something as well as shows me that others are beginning to rise up and fight.

HIV/AIDS IS SERIOUS; NOT BECAUSE THE DAMAGE IT DOES TO THOSE PERSONALLY FACING THE DISEASE AND THEIR FAMILIES BUT BECAUSE IT IS A NATIONAL STRUGGLE. WITHIN THIS HORRIFIC STRUGGLE THERE ARE THOSE THAT CONTINUE TO FIGHT;
THIS VIDEO STOOD OUT TO ME BECAUSE THE STUDENTS WEREN'T TALKING ABOUT DYING FROM HIV/AIDS, BUT THE IMPORTANCE OF EDUCATION. WE NEED TO CONTINUOUSLY EDUCATE OUR YOUTH HOLISTICALLY.

PIECE FROM A WORKSHOP
she could roll blunts longer than your sarcastic punch line
the wax rolled down her candles on her bedside like swaggy stilloets after a long night out
i never seen such an energetic lost soul beam words like light into folds of notebooks
you manipulated her dreams
turned them into sewage
you curved pages at the chapel like strippers on couches
imprinted your mark on her fingertips like fingers on love handles
_my dear bible
i leave you backsides for morning brunch and fingertips for dinner

today i happened to be speaking to a really amazing and inspiring spoken word poet and champion;this is one of the many things he said to me.
"your story is uniquely beautiful"
no one has EVER told me this before. they've always said it was different but never beautiful, that's exactly what i want others to feel and experience the beauty in my work weather its painful or not.

how close are we?

"SIX DEGREES OF SEPARATION (also referred to as a the "Human Web") refers to the idea that, if a person is one step away from each person they know and two steps away from each person who is known by one of the people thet know, then everyone is at most six steps away from any other person on Earth. It was popularised by a play written by John Guare"

I've recently been using CULTURE a lot in many of my sentences, but this time it is necessary. many teens are getting pregnant and this has been ongoing; my issue isn't the pregnancy but that lack of choice they have. they are being scrutinized and stereotyped as the same with racism and sexism. this is further than ageism. i have a friend who left school in 10th grade came back in without enough credits and built up the strength and determination to continue fighting. she fought for her son, her baby father and herself, no her family. though she is just one; she is paving the way for many other young girls and we need to take this into account and not just shed the light on it but shine the light on it.

well, as some of you may know i work for an HIV/AIDS awareness non profit organization. this is jus a quick post and blog on an even; come check the talent and inspiration out!!!

goodbye to the panther

we often in our lives hit bumps in the road, at this point it is no longer up to the institution or structure set in place 2 determine out thoughts but ultimately us as individuals. i have come to the point in all my life nothing is worth fighting for; with this i say goodbye to the panther.don't get me wrong i like the idea of life itself but i need to start living; I've been procrastinating and saying this for to long. time to begin.

i went go to school with this boy named Godfrey until he graduated; i knew that he rapped in a group but i never knew what his full potential was until i added him on Facebook and saw all the great work that he was doing.
here's a bio of his progress
M.J.G. is a very dynamic duo and their objective is to bring a breath of fresh air into the Hip Hop music genre and to the music diaspora overall. They strive for excellence and great quality music.
It all started with two young Syracuse University freshmen undergraduates rapping in front of a computer camera for fun, posting their freestyles to Facebook.
A.C.E. & 6EE's freestyles quickly gained popularity across campus. Looking to revamp what they had started, the two started what would be known as the 119 Cipher Series. The concept was unheard of; creating a regular series exclusively on Facebook. Every Friday at 9 a new episode featuring A.C.E. & 6EE and other hip-hop talent on campus would be posted.
As the series gained popularity the two knew that it was time to expand. Thus, Takeover Entertainment was founded, an umbrella of digital entertainment. Along with the launch of Takeover Entertainment came new ventures: a new dance series, airing on Saturdays and a new goal, to become the face of Hip Hop music on campus.
The two closed out 119 Cipher Series' first season with a new format hinting at what was to come next semester and began focusing on their first mixtape, Lyrical Exercise Vol. 1.
Compiling many new and classic instrumentals from producers such as Dr. Dre, Scott Storch, The Neptunes, and many others, M.J.G. began their work on breathing new life into these instrumentals.
Nearing completion of this LP, M.J.G. is looking forward to it's release and promise that it will not disappoint.

many ppl believe that poetry is just snaps and a guitar to the flow of metaphors and similes; its more than that. poetry is TRUTH, and the expression of one's self without censorship. here is one who took advantage of his ability to write.

art is a big part of culture, from visual arts to literacy; one isn't complete without the other. Emory Douglas also known as "The Revolutionary Artist" and also was the Minister of culture for the Black Panthers around the 1960s to '80s. Emory used his graphic art designs to add another elements to The Black
Panther paper to illustrates forms of oppression while at the same time uses the images to empower the "powerless".

i have a thing for quotes' they seem to always find the right words to hit the emotion right on the tip of your heart. the quote below is a quote by Ghandi that i found on a friends website that you all should check out(http://www.theswtlife.com/); as i was saying, this quote is very powerful to me in terms of finding myself and the thought that it's lose myself because i will eventually find myself.

“The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” -Gandhi
i hope that this as inspired you as much as it has inspired me

HIV/AIDS is one of the few diseases that can be prevented; yesterday i attempted to get feedback from a couple of my friends as to how they interpret the STI. in the end they took it as a joke in each others eyes; i saw the fear in theirs though their laughs showed a different emotion. this can create be a step forward for all of us; young, old, realist, dreamers, and educators towards educating the world.
***AS YOU CAN SEE IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO CONDUCT THE v-LOG, BUT THIS DOESN'T MEAN STOP SPEAKING, WE HAVE TO TAKE SMALL STEPS IN ORDER TO LEAP

i work for an HIV/AIDS and SAFE sex awareness organization by the name of Project Reach Youth (PRY). my job isn't like others where its demanding and no fun is produced. my job is like a family, not a second family but one that extends. before our 1 week vacation we did an activity that involved creating a portrait of yourself through objects, shapes or words.

on the back side we had to draw a face and ppl walked around the room and wrote words of inspiration instead of constructive criticism; with their words a body was created on mines.

THAT'S NOT TRUE!!!
*this is a dedication to all the slam and spoken word poets out there; weather you write for yourself or others you're gifted and take advantage of the power your words have
I HEAR THEM SAY CONTINUOUSLY SAY THAT SPOKEN WORD ISN'T REAL
THAT US DEF POETS NEED TO STOP HIDING BEHIND METAPHORS AND SIMILES
SO TO ALL THOSE WHO CANT PLUG IN THE AMP TO BRING VOLUME TO YOUR TONGUE
TELL ME
DOESN'T SHE WHO SPEAK OF PENETRATIONAL VIBRATIONS
NOT SEXUAL SENSATION
NOT SPEAK "OF THE TRUTH"
MATTER A FACT "THE TRUTH"
MAYBE SHE USES METAPHORS AND SIMILES SO THAT PEOPLE LIKE YOU CAN LISTEN TO HER SPEAK
IT SEEMS AS THOUGH LOUD SCREAMS CANT EVEN FALL OFF DEAF EAR
BUT INSTEAD GLASS SIDEWALKS
SO THAT SHE MAY SEE THE REFLECTION OF A LOST CHILD
BUT ON THIS STAGE SHE SPEAKS THE LAST POET
IT DOESN'T MATTER IF WALKIE TALKIES CAN ERASE STATIC OFF YOUR EARS
BLACK INK DESTROYS WHITE PAGES
RED MARGINS RUN SO THE REVOLUTION STOPS
BUT WE CARRY IT ON
RED BUDS CANT RESIST MY APPETITE
SO THEY STAY IN LINED WITH THE MARGINS OF MY JAW LINE
WHEN SLAVES SANG SONGS
TO BE FREE
TELL THEM
WAS IT REAL
LAST TIME I CHECKED
COTTON PICKING HUMBS WAS A FORM OF BEAT BOXING
AND GOSPEL SINGING CODES WERE LIKE METAPHORICAL SCRIPTURES
I GUESS THE SHACKLES ARE WHIPPED EMBEDDED IN YOUR EARS
BUT I HOLD MY TONGUE FOR NO ONE
THEREFORE THE MASTER WILL NOT LEAVE FOOTPRINTS IMPRINTED ON MY TONGUE
I HEAR THEM SAY CONTINUOUSLY SAY THAT SPOKEN WORD ISN'T REAL
